Sanyo Denki has brought out 60mm and 80mm counter rotating fan pairs to complement its existing 40mm fans.
Developed in order to improve cooling of servers and other electronic systems in cabinets, they give a better performance and are more efficient than single fans run faster, or two fans rotating in the same sense. In particular, they exhibit a convex static pressure versus air volume curve as opposed to one with a pronounced dip in the middle.
The 80mm San Ace 80 CR delivers a 68 per cent higher airflow compared to single stage fans of the same frame size, and can deliver 4.53 m3/minute at a static pressure on 520Pa. The 60mm San Ace 60 CR delivers 2.26 m3/minute at 550 Pa, an increase of 20 per cent airflow over conventional designs.
Counter rotating fans pairs are widely used in aerospace because of their greater efficiency and absence of net reaction torque.
