Adjustable chain controls motorcycles from handlebars 18/06/2008

Philip Tucker from Sittingbourne, who lost his leg in a motorcycle accident, has devised a mechanism that replaces the clutch and brake handles on a motorcycle handlebar with a single unit. This includes a means of actuating a brake master cylinder in a manner in which the mechanical advantage of the handle can be easily adjusted.
It works by varying the length of one of the linkages in a four bar chain. A simple thumbscrew adjustment moves one of the pivot points along one of the links – making a large difference to the mechanical advantage.
